GB (Gifted & Blessed) released Emotional Topography on Leaving Records today.
GB, real name Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker, hails from the Inglewood neighbourhood of LA and has appeared on labels like Wild Oats and Eglo Records, though the bulk of his output comes via his own imprint. Leaving says that Emotional Topography is a follow-up of sorts to his 2009 ambient release, Healing Tones: Invented Listening, and it comes with the message "may music help dissolve the differences between us." Reyes-Whittaker recently filmed a live session at RA's Los Angeles offices, which you can watch below.
Today also sees the release of a tape called Some Kind Of Wave Portal from Cool Maritime, the solo project of Sean Hellfritsch, a synthesizer obsessive who looks to the coastal region between San Francisco and Vancouver for inspiration. He speaks on the album's title in the press release: "Surfing and synthesis are two very important practices in my life, and both open a wonderfully meditative portal that I can easily lose myself in."
Both artists will play a free release show in LA tomorrow in Highland Park. (Full information is in the event listing below.)
