  • Smart Bar has revealed its residencies for 2016. Under the direction of Marea Stamper, AKA The Black Madonna, the long-running Chicago nightclub revamped its format back in 2014, launching a comprehensive residency program that focused on locals as well as a few select guests. It also included a "junior resident" position meant to highlight emerging talent. There are no new juniors for 2016, though Stamper promises that last year's—which include the Men's Room DJs and Steve Mizek—will remain an important part of the schedule for this year. New for 2016 is Honey Soundsystem's Jason Kendig, who recently relocated to Chicago from San Francisco, and was also behind that crew's Generators series of events at the venue last year. He was announced alongside Smart Bar regulars like Chrissy, Justin Long, Sassmouth and Michael Serafini, along with his fellow Queen! residents Derrick Carter and Garrett David. Oktave's Jeff Derringer will return, as will Smart Bar talent buyer Olin, Phillip Stone and the Hugo Ball party. The club has also announced partnerships with "four American groups that share Smart Bar's vision of preserving and expanding the American dance music community through stellar events and activism." Among them are Brooklyn's Discwoman crew, Detroit's Interdimensional Transmissions—who RA recently profiled as label of the month—San Francisco's As You Like It and Honcho, the gay party helmed by Aaron Clark, Clark Price and George d'Adhemar that happens at Hot Mass in Pittsburgh. Each group will be responsible for two events at Smart Bar in 2016. You can read the full note over at The Black Madonna's Facebook page.
