  • Matmos' next album will land on Thrill Jockey early next year. Drew Daniel and MC Schmidt are well known for their whimsical and imaginative approach to electronic music. The Baltimore duo stay true to form on their latest LP, Ultimate Care II, which is built entirely from samples of their own washing machine. Ultimate Care II is meant to be "an encounter with the unrealized possibilities of domesticity," says a statement from the label. "Like its namesake, the album runs across its variations as a single, continuous 38-minute experience that starts with the grinding turn of the wash size selection wheel, and ends with the alert noise that signals that the wash is done." The record, formatted as one 38-minute track, features collaborations with Dan Deacon, Jason Willett (of Half Japanese) and members of Horse Lords. The spring will see Daniel and Schmidt hit the road for a handful of US performances that will "celebrate homely materials with high-tech processing." You can listen to a four-minute excerpt from the album below:
Thrill Jockey will release Ultimate Care II on February 19th, 2016.
