  • The Detroit dance club Populux has announced its initial schedule, and it'll open in mid-April. Back in January, we reported on the demise of long-running Detroit rock club Magic Stick. Since then, Populux owners Amir Daiza and Dave Zainea (who also runs the related Majestic venue), have been renovating the space for launch prior to the city's annual Movement festival. Populux tells RA the $250,000-plus renovation has allowed for "all-new bathrooms, a bigger stage, and dressing rooms for the artists without losing the old character of the structure." Though Daiza's former venture Elektricity was heavy on EDM bookings, Poplux's newly announced dates pay homage to the Midwest roots of dance music. According to the owners, the space will host "a monthly Detroit showcase focused on developing local talent." The doors will swing open on April 18th with a Chicago double-header featuring Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak. The following weekend, Green Velvet and Motor City staple Kevin Saunderson test out the new space and Populux has Dirtybird artist Shadow Child on May 8th. Check out the official site below for a full list of current bookings.
