  • San Francisco's Honey Soundsystem will come to Chicago in 2015 for a series of events at Smart Bar called Generators. The Windy City club already announced that Honey, AKA Josh Cheon, Jason Kendig, Jacob Sperber and Robert Yang, will be part of this year's residents roster. Full details of their regular presence at the club have now been revealed, and as far as residencies go, it doesn't get much more immersive than what they have planned with Generators. The series will explore, as the crew puts it, "the subjective history of the queer nightclub" across six chapters, with events happening on a roughly bi-monthly basis and involving a range of writers, performers, visual artists and other contributors, young and old. Each night will be prefaced by a piece of audio, made available by way of a free online stream, featuring words and sounds from queer artists and activists. When each night at Smart Bar arrives, Tom Slazinski (who's previously worked with both the club and with Honey, at their Bijou Theater event last February) will add to the story with installations and decorations surrounding the dance floor. Further information for each chapter will be fleshed out in the coming weeks and months, and the final edition of Generators in December will also involve a free artist discussion, taking place at Smart Bar earlier in the evening, which will be recorded and broadcast online. Chapter 1 of Generators will happen on Saturday, February 7th, and all four Honey DJs will be on hand (Sperber will appear as Jackie House, and Yang will take on his Bézier alias). It will be first time all four appear together in Chicago. At the beginning of that week, Chapter 1's audio piece, with Marke Bieschke's prose and Kevin Clarke's narration, will be made available. Tickets to Chapter 1 are available here on RA, and you can read all about the Generators concept at the official site below.
