- A box set including new tracks and a mix from Friction are among the festivities set to drop in December.
Shogun Audio is a decade old in 2014, and they're celebrating with a multi-pronged birthday compilation out December 1st.
The label was started by DJ Friction back in 2004 (launched with his own rework of Jo's "R-Type"). With an ethos that cuts between minimalist purism and pop-friendly crossover, Shogun has since become one of drum & bass's most prominent and stylistically diverse imprints—counting the likes of Icicle, Rockwell, Alix Perez and SpectraSoul among its ranks.
For their tenth birthday, Shogun are pulling out all the stops. The meat of the collection is a triple-CD package that includes one disc of new tracks and remixes (called The Future), a selection of highlights from the label's back catalogue (The Past), and a brand new mix from Friction himself—who was last seen mixing a Fabriclive in 2013. The new tunes include contributions from Icicle, Technimatic, Rockwell, Calibre, Total Science, Calyx & Teebee as well as newer signings Joe Ford and Fourward.
For the diehard fans, there's also a limited edition box set, which includes the CD as well as a documentary DVD, a poster, a hand-signed letter from Friction and a set of six ten-inches containing some of the new tracks. You can stream a few (and see the full tracklist) below.
