  • Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg has announced it will close by the end of 2014. The performance space and music venue—a final hold-out for shabby, low-budget events in the Williamsburg waterfront neighborhood—will join the likes of 285 Kent and Death by Audio in fleeing the area for good. Started in 2006 as an "experimental community art space," and at the time flanked by other semi-legal DIY spots like Secret Project Robot and Paris London West Nile, the venue has hosted the likes of Lone, Clark, SOPHIE, Move D and Daniel Avery in recent years. They have announced that their final show will take place on New Year's Eve. Williamsburg's waterfront is the scene of several major building projects, including the $1.5 billion Domino Sugar factory redevelopment and the impending relocation of VICE Media headquarters into the venue next to Glasslands. Glasslands management have not yet shared plans for a new location though in a recent announcement on their website, they signed off with the statement: "Goodbye for now, but not forever."
