  • Pioneer DJ have unveiled KUVO, an iOS/Android app and website that provides real-time information on what DJs are playing in clubs. KUVO offers users the chance to know what DJs are playing at clubs hooked up to the app's network. Clubs can choose to hook up to the KUVO network via Pro DJ Link LAN—track information will then be fed live through to the app as the DJ is playing. Initially KUVO will only work at clubs kitted out with Pioneer CDJs and mixers, but the company says it's in "advanced conversations with third parties to extend it to non-Pioneer hardware and software." The app also allows users to create playlists, follow clubs and DJs, upload photos and find venues on its "club map." KUVO is already hooked up to several well known nightspots, including Ministry Of Sound in London, Mansion in Miami and Space Ibiza. Pioneer say the data received from KUVO will lead to a fairer system of distributing royalties to producers and labels. They're working with the Association For Electronic Music to "ensure such payments end up in the right hands." Richie Hawtin has already thrown his weight behind the venture. Pioneer say they are working with Hawtin (and his RADR.dj technology) "to create a plug-in that will allow Native Instruments' Traktor and non-Pioneer users to feed into the KUVO system." Watch the video below for more insight into KUVO.
