David Rodigan has mixed the next edition of Ministry Of Sound's Masterpiece series.
Rodigan's effort follows Carl Craig's instalment, which came back out in June. Naturally for a man who's been championing dub and reggae for 35 years, his mix is littered with names like Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Bob Marley & The Wailers. But his selections also span '60s rock, funk and soul, through to ska, roots and dancehall, to more contemporary music from the likes of Luciano, Amy Winehouse and Riva Starr.
"I have made other compilations, but I decided this should be a reflection of my life musically, including both the things I grew up listening to and the things I am currently enjoying," he says. The first disc documents the music Rodigan listened to growing up, while the second features "one or two glorious obscurities." The third disc, meanwhile, looks to the future: "We are progressing and not living in the past. There are people with new ideas and this music is not finished, there’s a lot more to come."
A selection of the tracks from the mix will be released as a separate 7-inch vinyl boxset. A launch party will take place at Basing House in London on February 5th, 2014.
