  • Heidi will launch a new label next month called Heidi presents Jackathon Jams. Heidi is a London-based DJ, BBC Radio 1 host and longtime staple of Get Physical Music, the parent to her new label. She first conceived of The Jackathon a few years ago as a party series, and has brought it to clubs and festivals around the world since then. The concept has kept growing in the meantime: last year she put out the first Jackathon mix CD, and now the new label (her first) is ready to see the light of day. "I just felt like it was the next step," she told RA recently. "I get sent so much music because of my radio show, I thought it's time to let the new crew come through." Chatting via email earlier this week, she gave us more insight on the label and its background:
The Jackathon has been around in various forms for a few years now. How did it start, and what's the overall spirit behind it? It started in 2009. I was quite lonely travelling by myself all the time and it was really getting me down. So I thought that with the help of my radio show on Radio 1 I could have a bit more pull in doing my own parties. I spoke with a few places that I have residencies with, like Watergate in Berlin, and they jumped at the chance to host them. It kind of snowballed from there. I approached the clubs and promoters I really enjoyed playing for and they seemed really keen on doing something a bit different. Bringing more of a family vibe and non-label night to the table. Just like-minded artists and producers that I admire to come and play alongside me. A variety of music to keep the night fresh. When you're planning parties or working on future releases for the label, what is it about an artist or a track that says "Jackathon" to you? I'm really open to anything as I like so many different styles of music. It's not just about "jackin" tracks in that sense of the word. Many people don't know but the word "jacking" is a dance move, a feeling to move your body in a certain way, pertaining to the music that was coming out in Chicago at a certain moment in dance music history. For me it definitely has to be about the artist and if I connect with them on a personal level. That makes such a difference to me. They could make a bomb but if I'm not feeling the person, the music is less vital. All of my parties have been real moments for me because the people who agree to come and play really get stuck in and enjoy the night to the fullest. Coming down early and supporting the other acts, whom they may or may not know. It's about connecting the dots between different genres of music. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside after we do these parties and everyone always leaves with a sweaty smile on their face and usually a massive hangover. The tell tale signs of good night.
Heidi Presents Jackathon Jams will get started with a mini-compilation, Da Remixes, featuring reworks of the exclusive tracks from the Jackathon mix by Deniz Kurtel, Eats Everything and Richy Ahmed. Though specifics have yet to be tied down, future releases will feature Maya Jane Coles, Miss Kittin, Darius Syrossian, Lauhaus & Rik Woldring and Jesse Perez to name a few. Tracklist 01. Jamie Jones - Whiff It Yawl (Eats Everything Resniff) 02. Mathias Kaden - The Jackathon (Richy Ahmed Remix) 03. Solomun - What the Funk (Deniz Kurtel Remix) Heidi Presents Jackathon Jams will release Da Remixes on May 14th, 2012.
