Ryan Brokenshire began buying underground electronic dance music on vinyl at the tender age of eighteen. Despite being new to dance music in general, he had a knack for picking out house records that sampled classic disco music. Some years later, as he dug deeper, he began discovering all the original disco records one by one. He was dismayed that these originals were often so much better than the house tracks that sampled them. Concerned that the world of dance music had lost touch with actual "music" he started Galapagos Records with a mission to fuse modern electronic dance music with the musicianship and songwriting that existed during the heyday of underground disco.
