  • Italian producer Donato Dozzy's mature and considered take on techno isn't without precedent or followers. But he simply does it better than almost anyone else. He found his sound as a DJ through a residency at Panorama Bar, finding that his hypnotic tracks worked best early in the morning when they were given the proper space to breathe. Soon after, he began playing at Japan's outdoor Labyrinth festival, where his sets have become the stuff of legend. Production-wise, Dozzy has always been good, but his latest album, a collaboration with fellow Italian Neel, is a step above. It's called Voices from the Lake, and stands as his finest hour yet. We went to Rome in February to visit Dozzy, and he explained how the city's evil character has shaped his sound, as well as paying tribute to some of the early Italian producers that helped him along the way.
