- Following a six-year hiatus from the music industry, Karen "KG" Nyame-Gyamfi is reintroducing herself to a new generation and reconnecting with her old audience. She's hit the ground running in the few years since her comeback, working with the likes of UNiiQU3, Scratcha DVA and Dance System, and releasing a solo EP on Goon Club Allstars. Having started music production from the tender age of eight, she has transformed from a respected beatmaker of the UK Funky era to fully-fledged producer, working with Aymos, Toya Delazy, Taliwhoah and Mista Silva on her recent Sensei II for Black Acre.
Her return has come in the wake of harder years where the inequities of the industry had turned her artistic gift into a burden. In conversation with Vanessa Maria, we hear how KG restored her love of music, the plans behind her forthcoming debut album and the journey to trusting her unique creative identity.
