  • Zakia Sewell's radio documentaries and podcasts explore the intersection of music, history and culture. Her productions for BBC Radio 4 span the recently released My Albion, a penetrating and redemptive journey through the contradictions of British identity, to studies of Sabar drumming, and chronicles of Windrush descendant's experiences. Exchange listeners will recognise her from interviews with historically significant figures Patrice Rushen and Beverly Glenn-Copeland, and she's also documented the lives of other important artists like Julius Eastman and Ella Fitzgerald. Sewell also hosts the highly respected NTS show, Questing, which combines her gift for documentary and interview with DJing, a talent that's taken her through some of London and Europe's top clubs and festivals. In conversation with Martha, we hear the story behind some of Sewell's key documentaries and her impressively thorough research process.
