And if you dig a little deeper, you'll stumble upon Moodymann, Theo Parrish or Omar-S. But what about the other vital people that slip through the cracks in the public perception of Detroit house and techno?
One such figure is a Black woman whose integral role within Detroit house and techno too often goes overlooked: Jennifer "DJ Minx" Witcher. Witcher found her calling one fateful night at Detroit's Music Institute watching Derrick May on the decks. Not long after, a chance gig opportunity jump-started a career that's now spanned over 30 years. From mentoring fellow women in the industry through her collective and label Women On Wax to rocking dancefloors across the globe, Witcher's contributions cannot be denied or overlooked.
A queen among Detroiters and beloved throughout the US, Minx, without a doubt, is one of the trailblazers for women in the DJ industry. The past and present of Detroit's rich music history isn't complete without her.
