  • The Hour is RA's monthly blend of documentaries, interviews and discussion. This edition is a tribute to the much loved music making software, FL Studio, AKA Fruity Loops. This digital audio workstation was developed in the late '90s in Belgium by a company with its roots in gaming called Image Line. The software later became integral to the development of Britain's underground music scene, as producers like Dexplicit and Plastician used Fruity Loops to create iconic instrumentals that galvanised grime and dubstep. Even though the music tech establishment has looked down its nose at the software, Fruity Loops has had an outsized influence on modern music, shaping both the underground and the top of the charts. Martha Pazienti Caidan spoke to producers and Fruity-enthusiasts E.M.M.A., Pearson Sound and Blackdown to hear the unlikely story of the DAW that brought production to the masses. The RA Exchange is also available on Spotify. Producer / Martha Pazienti Caidan
