  • When it comes to the holy trinity of drums, bass and groove, Colin McBean has the Midas touch. As Mr. G, he's released a near-inexhaustible number of dance floor bombs at an astonishing rate, all marked by his signature knack for swinging beats, swerving subs and uplifting yet tripping moods. In the five years between 2012 and 2017, McBean dropped a cool 55 EPs and three albums, but the crucial point is that they're routinely top quality and are especially popular among DJs—if you've spent much time in clubs in the 21st century, odds are you've had a transcendent moment dancing to a Mr. G track. Yet his recent track record is just the icing on the cake of an already charmed decade-plus in music. During the '90s, he was part of the beloved KCC crew and later made rampaging techno and electro with Cisco Ferreira as the Advent. In this live conversation with Martha Pazienti Caidan recorded at Printworks for the AVA London Conference, we hear how McBean's passion took root at an early age and the multitude of experiences that helped him develop into one of the scene's best-loved figures. The RA Exchange is also available on Spotify.
