  • The breadth of experience Colleen Murphy has picked up after her obsession with music and sound began in the '80s is staggering. Since starting her first radio show at age 14, she's worked in record stores, produced and presented countless hours of radio, launched a record label, produced her own music, thrown events, DJ'd around the world and became synonymous with great soundsystems and high-quality audio audio along the way. Apart from befriending and working with David Mancuso in the '90s, she helped establish the London successor to the Loft, Lucky Cloud, arguably one of the world's best-loved parties. More recently, she launched Classic Album Sundays, which offers the public a chance to hear celebrated records on an audiophile system in an atmosphere free from distractions. Given Murphy's history and achievements, she makes a perfect subject for the first edition of Full Circle, RA's new series of talks celebrating women in music. In conversation with Martha Pazienti Caidan, we hear about the process of becoming a great radio presenter, Mancuso's philosophies on sound, the joy of DJing without headphones and much more besides. The RA Exchange is also available on Spotify.
