  • Gregory Darsa describes his early Point G productions as "beginner's tracks" produced while "completely stoned" on an SP-1200 sampler. But these 12-inches contain some of the chunkiest house tracks made in the late '90s. Tunes like "Chicken Coma" just do not go out of style but at the time, they didn't make much of an impact. They since became cult classics and Darsa was thrown back into the project in 2013 following represses of his early work. It's the sort of stuff that might stick out in a Zip, Villalobos or Apollonia set but there's much more to Darsa than minimalistic house. Meanwhile, he's been an incredibly busy artist for 20-odd years and has released a prodigious amount of music. His DJ Gregory alias was minted with the French Touch anthem "Venus (Sunshine People)," marking him out among a loose crew of artists like Daft Punk, St. Germain and Château Flight who were defining a peculiarly French take on house. He went on to produce beats for the likes of Bob Sinclar and was part of Africanism, before launching his Faya Combo label with hits like "Tropical Soundclash," which fused house with non-Western sounds. But as Antoine Carbonnaux found out a few months back in Darsa's studio in Paris, Point G has again become a dominant concern and Darsa continues to juggle a diverse array of projects.
