  • Few artists have had careers as long and rich as Dylan Hermelijn's. For the past 26 years, he's been 2000 And One, a prolific DJ and producer and proprietor of labels like Remote Area and 100% Pure. Before that he was a teenage music obsessive, taking cheap flights around Europe (his dad worked at KLM, handily enough) to scour the continent's record stores, eventually discovering acid house in London in the late '80s. The following decades were extraordinarily eventful for Hermelijn. He debuted as an artist in 1990, and had a front row seat for all of dance music's expansions and contractions since then. Some of them took their toll: in the late '90s, disillusioned and buried in debt, he turned his back on DJing and pursued a career in IT, only to get swept up in it all again a few years later. Chatting with Will Lynch at our office in Berlin, Hermelijn shared some insights from a quarter century of making and playing records.
