  • The Hotflush boss talks identity.

  • Paul Rose, AKA Scuba and SCB, is one of the UK's most well-known dubstep DJs and producers. Trouble is, he doesn't make dubstep anymore—and hasn't for years. (Not to mention he has made his home in Berlin since 2008.) Nowadays the Hotflush boss is just as liable to play house, techno, boogie and hip-hop in his sets as he is anything else. It reflects the remarkable open-mindedness of the scene he travels in as well as his incurable restlessness. As such, Hotflush has been more genre-agnostic than ever, a state that Rose has always wanted the imprint to occupy. Despite this adventurous streak, his own productions and DJ sets are clearly aiming for the biggest audiences possible. A bit conflicted? You could say so. But, as we found out earlier this week in advance of his appearance at our Warehouse Project night in December, Rose has always been at a metaphorical crossroads. He seemingly wouldn't want it any other way.
