Rocksteady Disco and Marble Bar are pleased to host the release party for STANDING STILL IS AN ILLUSION by Blair French. Following last year's Brazilian Boogie Badness party, we have Sao Paolo's Rafael Cancian back to headline the night. Support from RSD label boss PETER CROCE
Reduced admission presales will be on sale via Resident Advisor on Monday 5/22 at noon!
About Standing Still Is An Illusion: "Following Peter Croce's Revival, Blair French comes through with a Detroit Deep House meets Afro-Brazilian Beat stomper. The A side title track holds a nearly 10 minute aural odyssey feat. Paul Randolph (Jazzanova / Mahogani Music), Ryan Gimpert (Will Sessions), and Topher Horn (Rocksteady Disco). The flip holds "Ayiba I Yeri O" and "Pagode Americano", 2 highly trainspottable World Beat dance floor destroyers. Housed in the custom Rocksteady Disco jacket."
RAFAEL CANCIAN (About Disco)
Founder of About Disco records, world traveler, and selector of deep House, Disco, and Brazilian sounds, Rafael Cancian makes his return to Detroit for the second year. Rafael's edits, reworks, and productions have been supported by legends such as Greg Wilson, Danny Krivit, Horse Meat Disco, and more.
BLAIR FRENCH (Fat Finger Cosmic, Rocksteady Disco)
You may have heard of Blair through his work scoring the award-winning documentary Detropia, or you may have heard of him as Dial.81 on Paul Randolph's newest Mahogani Music compilation, or you may have heard of him on John Beltran's Delsin Recordings, or you may have heard of him as a part of Cosmic Handshakes or Nois Land with Todd Modes, or maybe you remember the split Rocksteady Disco / Fat Finger Cosmic EP we did with him and Eddie Logix as BLKSHRK along with Topher Horn. Maybe the introduction isn't fully necessary after all. More recently, Blair has been honing in his dancefloor-oriented productions and deejaying since bumping into Peter a few years back. Ever-the-artist, his deejay sets are known for blending musical cuts from the Detroit homies as well as world beat cuts that continue to define Blair's mystic musical selection.
PETER CROCE (Rocksteady Disco, Mr. PC Versions)
Peter Croce is part of the next generation that carries forth the melting pot of sounds that make up Detroit’s diverse DJ and soundsystem culture. His sets combine a didactic blend of Disco, Deep House, Afrobeat, and Broken Beat dubplates and classics to elevate the souls of those fortunate enough to be in the discotheque. Emerging from the Detroit underground organically, Peter Croce has been called "the hardest working DJ in Detroit". While he stands firmly rooted in the old school, he has dustier fingers than your standard reissue DJs. Armed with bags of wax and USBs full of unreleased tracks, he's sure to bring moods and sounds the discotheque has not previously felt. Peter owns and operates Rocksteady Disco, a label that he describes as being “the vehicle for millennials to carry forward the great musical gift of Deep House and Disco in Detroit.” He has recently founded Mr. PC Versions to re-envision a curious blend of tracks for DJ use.
