We are working on a tribute & benefit for Boyd Jarvis, entitled The Music’s Got Me, A Musical Tribute to Boyd Jarvis. The music got him – and he got the music, 30-plus years and counting. Boyd Jarvis helped with shaping the building blocks of dance music as we know it today. Boyd has also been a crucial behind-the-scenes figure, writing, producing and remixing songs for everyone from Herbie Hancock and Latoya Jackson to Prince, Madonna and Boy George. Most Gotham music fans might fondly remember him from co-hosting Saturday Night Dance Party on WBLS radio alongside Shelter don Timmy Regisford, and his frequent collaborations with iconic producers like Joe Claussell, François K, Dave Morales, Little Louie Vega and more. It is for this reason that we are reaching out to you today to request your participation in the Host Committee for this event, because you are part of this rich tapestry. Our request is simply: 1.) Commit and be accountable for having 10 people advance purchase tickets from designated Eventbrite platform, 2.) Utilize your social network (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) to publicize this event.
On a more somber note, the motivation for putting this event together is to serve as a fundraiser for Boyd. He has been diagnosed with cancer and shortly will be going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy. I don’t have to tell you how medical expense and after care can bankrupt a person in these circumstances. With that said the prognosis for his recover is good. The intent was to raises funds to support his aftercare, position him mentally with spiritual and emotion support, that I know will be necessary for him to weather this impeding storm. With the short list of DJs selected to participate under the advice and consent of Timmy Regisford and Boyd Jarvis (Compressed Effects Records), we will have a powerful celebration of the lifetime achievement and work of Boyd Jarvis: Timmy Regisford, Merlin Bobb, Kevin Hedge, Francois Kevokian, Joe Claussell & Eli Escobar with Barbara Tucker as Master of Ceremonies.
We believe the event will carry the day on the quality of the offering. We request a donation of
your services for this event. We have a date and a venue: Thursday, October 27th at Output (Main Room). We are in process to finalize with the venue, and specifics will follow shortly as well as the promotional materials. Please respond in a timely fashion, if you are willing and able
to participate. On a side note, Boyd’s birthday is October 26th. I know Boyd has touched the lives of many and I hope that we collectively can reflect the love we all feel for him in his time of need.
