For one Friday a month , Pygmalion is introducing Hot Wax to our musical resume . Hot Wax will be a platform for the finest vinyl dj's around to share their choice sounds and moods with our audience. With the recent hot topics of laptops in the booth, I think its only timely to bring a record only night of sonic pleasure to the vaults. First on the bill, we welcome Shane Linehan (Basic Grooves, Local Talk, WYS) with the very talented Do Funkk (Domus Records), in support.
Arriving on the scene in the mid 2000s, cutting his teeth spinning on Sub FM and running gigs in Cork and Limerick, where he earned his stripes playing support to some of the Ireland leading DJs, Shane Linehan has gone onto become one of Ireland foremost house music talents. Shane learned his trade through the lost art of warming up, and has spun alongside some of house music’s most respected names including Prosumer, Rob Mello, and Brawther. Today, he is known to play a variety of house sounds, from deep and dubbed out, to pacey and energetic.
As well as building a reputation as one of Corks most educated new- school house DJs, he has also honed his reputation as a much in demand producer. In 2011 he established BASIC GROOVES, a label where he could release music his own way and take utmost care with each release.
Shane has gained support from an array of heavyweight DJs and his records are played by Kerri Chandler, Jus- Ed, Jeremy Underground Paris, Brawther, Rob Mello, Jamie Jones, The Revenge, Dj Deep, Jimpster, and Milton Jackson amongst others.
Do-Funkk’s influences and inspiration come mainly from Detroit, Berlin and Chicago scenes, but sometimes it is possible to hear some french house, as well as disco cuts in his sets. As his sound evolves with flow of the crowd, Do-Funkk’s main sound lays in deep analog baselines and raw drums that could move between chilled sounds to disco, house, minimal, techno and acid grooves.
Do-Funkk has supported various local and international acts and had shared the controls with some international dj’s such as Tama Sumo, Kenny Larkin, Ian Pooley, Ripperton, Martin Parra, Fran Hartnett, Tim Green, Los Suruba, Marco Balcazar, and Dosem.
