Tonight sees a special Soundcrash night with one of the greatest turntablists this country has ever produced, one of Bristol's most creative beatmakers, TWO incredible new breakthrough live bands, and our Soundcrash residents! All under one roof in one night! Phew!!!
MR THING started his high profile career as 'the best one from the Scratch Perverts'! Not a bad start you'd think, however since his split with them he has gone on to become about the most respected hip hop DJ in the UK, working with BBE records, Youngun, Vadim, Roots Manuva and just about everyone else! Yes he still posesses the sublime turntable trickery that the 'Pervs were all about but now, as a major lynchpin of the UK hip hop scene his sets are just as much about dropping the greatest block party anthems to excite trainspotters and the mainstream alike! He played at Soundcrash late summer last year and was honestly one of the best hip hop sets we have ever seen at Cargo!!
Maverick DJ & producer JON KENNEDY is one of the big guns from the Fat City and previously Grand Central Records (RIP). In terms of output and quality releleases JK is in a league of his own
'Ridiculous brilliance' was the verdict on Big Train's Haymaker after their London debut at The Spitz, and no-one since has disagreed. Loud, danceable, 4-piece rhythm, 3- piece horn, funk. Think Meters, James Brown, P-Funk, Sly and the Family Stone. In fact, with a horn section which recently supported the Family, you could probably ask Sly himself.
Already a firm fixture on Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show (BBC Radio 6), the band has wowed crowds wherever they've been, tearing the roof off London's coolest venues, 93 Feet East, Scala and The Spitz, keeping the crowds dancing at Summer festivals, and leaving DJs struggling to follow them at clubs everywhere.
The band have one serious shortcoming. They can't leave their audiences satisfied. Show us someone who didn't want more, and we'll show you someone who wasn't there. Show us someone who wasn't dancing, and we'll show you someone who wasn't there.
Based in west London, Guardians of the Ancient Wisdom are a duality obsessed hip hop punk crew comprised of danDNA (producer/guitarist/emcee), Madam Blahvatski aka Leah Sublime (bass guitar/emcee), Mr Frendo (Scratch DJ) Wayne Pennell (producer) and Stan Gooch (author/muse).
Proudly flying the flag for the beats & world music scene across the world and with an already impressive musical history under his belt, Mr.Doris has slung rhythms at some of the most renowned clubs on the map & turned the heads of Gilles Peterson & Carl Cox et al. Effortlessly moulding genres such as Latin, Broken, Afro & Break Beats as well as Nu-Jazz, Hip Hop & Drum & Bass... be prepared to move your feet!
