Event Description The Centrifuge touches down in East London for our Gramaphone debut on Friday 6th February and for our 2nd birthday we are throwing a BIG party!! We wanted to celebrate all of the events and label releases we've put together over the years, and to herald the eagerly awaited new album from Centrifuge favourite, the acid-breakbeat-rave king Mr 76ix on Skam Records. We've assembled an all-star cast of Centrifuge favourites past, present and future for your sensory pleasures. Our other guests of honour are Swiss label Spezialmaterial’s big man Feldermelder, London party legends and last year's Bloc Weekend heroes AGT Rave Cru, our very own street-raving glitch maestro NeuTek and a selection of killer live acts from our label roster. Expect a cornucopia of live electronic delights spanning electronica, acid, chiptunes, glitch, techno, darkwave, dubstep, breakbeat, electro, breakcore, old skool rave and everything in between! Gramaphone is a lovely boutique bar / club on Commercial St, just off Brick Lane and a few minutes walk from Aldgate East tube station. There’s a top quality sound system in the club room (downstairs) and space for mooching upstairs. Food is available till 10pm. Capacity is limited though, and with a line-up like this we’re recommending you sort out advance tickets (email [email protected]) or get down early. The live music starts at 8pm, see you down the front people! Artist Profiles Mr 76ix (www.skam.com) Mr 76ix is a mysterious, legendary character in the world of electronic music. A long-time master of the glitchy rave sound that Skam Records became world famous for in the nineties, his amazing productions remained shielded from the public consciousness until his notorious live set at the Autechre-curated ATP in 2003. His performance was hailed as the highlight of the whole festival by the people in the know. Since then three albums of glorious electronic goodness have appeared on Skam, but the Manchester-based don has shunned the limelight in favour of honing his sonic creations yet further, adding a crisp, acidic electro sound to his darkwave flavour. Mr 76ix played at our Nottingham bank holiday ACID special last summer and tore the roof off! This is a RARE chance to see the man, the myth, the legend Mr 76ix in London town! Not to be missed! Feldermelder (www.myspace.com/feldermelder) Feldermelder is the driving force behind the uber-cool Swiss electronica label Spezialmaterial and we have been trying to get him over to the UK for some time now. With a live set full of crisp beats, complex rhythms and intricate melodies, it’s no wonder that he can count Autechre, Team Doyobi, Plaid and many more of the world’s finest electronic musicians as collaborators and friends. AGT Rave Cru (www.myspace.com/agtravecru) The mighty DJ Mag said this about AGT Rave Cru after their performance at Bloc Weekend last year, and who are we to argue with them? Get ready to rave it right up with the ‘ardcore residents of the awesome “I Love Acid” nights! “Like Altern8 meets 2ManyDJs in fluoro coats and Orbital glasses, this duo turned a gaping Smash Bloc floor into a raging Sunday afternoon riot with their cut'n'paste of tracks like 'Around the World', Reel 2 Reel's 'I Like to Move It' and a 15-minute Prodigy medley. Beyond insane.” NeuTek & The Boombot Soundsystem (www.thecentrifuge.co.uk/?artist=neutek) NeuTek is a London-based electronic musician, software developer and programmer. Using experimental and self-developed tracker software, the fruits of his technical creativity yield expressive electronic music for the body and the mind that transcends the myriad paradigms of electro, acid, ambient, rave, chiptunes, glitch, breakbeat and gabba which gave birth to this wonder of music and technology! His mastery of handheld-based trackers such as Piggy have led to a world first – a totally mobile LIVE "street rave” set up where the music is generated and manipulated live by NeuTek and the Boombot Soundsystem’s portable wireless speaker suits are used to form a mobile P.A. You will barely believe your eyes and ears! Scrubber Fox (www.scrubberfox.co.uk) Hailing from the north of this fine isle, Scrubber Fox doesn’t make it as far as London too often. That’s a big shame, as he has been tearing up our Nottingham shows with floor-filler acid rinseouts and tumbling breakbeats to our great pleasure. Not to worry, by popular request he’s coming down to the big smoke to tear Gramaphone a new hole with a totally fresh live setup that will leave heads scratched, feet raw and sweat dripping from the ceiling. Having released on Skam, Merck and now The Centrifuge, the heads know about Scrubber and it’s time you did too. Glatze (www.uncoolsam.net) Glatze is the new moniker for the multi-talented shiny-headed Sam Underwood (aka Samski or Uncool Sam), a musician, circuit-bender and all-out live music legend hailing from Birmingham. One of our favourite live acts around, his sets are an orgy of customised electronic equipment, with circuit-bent kids dolls and Furbys sitting alongside doctored loudspeakers, squealing guitars and a fun-at-all-costs mentality that has rocked every dancefloor its graced. And no computers in sight! Killa. Guide (www.brokebust.com) Manchester-based glitch guru Guide (formerly known as brokeBust) touches down for his London debut which we have been looking forward to for ages! A king of the deconstructed remix, his legendary Nottingham live sets in 2006 were described by the head honcho of rave brand Firefly thus: “Amazing. Like 2 Many DJs meets Aphex Twin.” Nuff said! Oxynucid (www.myspace.com/oxynucid) A true musician with golden fingers, Oxynucid, aka Dom Schofield, is fast making a name for himself in electronic music. Having spent 10 years playing keys in an electro/indie band that made it big, he left to pursue his solo career. Barely seconds later, he signed to The Centrifuge and has released a string of acclaimed EPs and tracks, taking his electro tendencies and braindance influences and shaping wondrous pieces of lush melodic electronics. You ain’t gonna see too many reel-to-reel players and Korg MS-10s on stage either – live electronics can be real, and Oxynucid’s sets have been the highlight of many a Centrifuge show. Captain Chaos (www.myspace.com/captainchaos23) Captain Chaos is The Centrifuge’s very own live rave general, prepared to lay down his life for the cause – maximum sweat, blood and bodily fluids on the dancefloor. Taking his unique brand of intelligent, industrial-strength acid hardcore out on the road an ever-increasing amount, the Captain’s laptop is loaded and ready for nightclub combat! missaw vs abscissa (www.englishraveyarea.com) missaw and abscissa are two sides of the same coin, a low-denomination foreign currency that trades in both dancefloor and downtempo markets. As The Centrifuge’s compere and resident live remixer, missaw is on hand to supply backup for the live performers. He might be seen with a toy plastic megaphone held high, screaming public disservice announcements. More recently abscissa has reared its beatless head, serving up simple but emotive soundscapes to lose yourself in.
