Charles Webster Started making music at 15 in Sheffield electronic bands. Moved to Nottingham 1984. Started working in studios, writing tracks for emerging hip-hop outfit The Rock City Crew, then with early techno/house bods T Cut F. Worked in studios with Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Started DJ’ing in clubs like Nottingham’s Garage, Barracuda, Eden and Venus.Became in-house engineer at Square Dance Studios. Began working as “Sine”, released three singles; all were well received. Sine became the starting point for the now-trademark deep/soulful/house sound that culminated in the booty-busting club classic “Belgium” under the name of “Megatonk”.
Involvement with the underground sound system scene led to the birth of the Love From San Francisco label. Charles explains, “One phone call was enough. I was out there and six twelve inches later I’m still out there, so to speak, in between regular visits to Europe to record, DJ, remix and feed the cat.” On return to Britain in 1995 started “REMOTE”, a kind of a British, San Franciscan label concentrating on deep, funky, atmospheric grooves: “a label too watch” said all!
Has dj’d in many many many countries; nominated by ledgendary dj harri (sub club) as favorite dj in ‘DJ magazine’ top 100, toured relentlesly with Presence all over the world through 1999s, taking the Presence sound on stage with a full live band. Presence album 11 out of 10 in ‘DJ’ mag, album of the month in just about all the others , uk and worldwide; album selling well ( over 50,000 ), 2 top 75 singles in uk chart, singles and album voted best of year in lot’s of mags, single ‘sense of danger’ now top 10 in billboard clubchart in USA.2002 saw worldwide acclaim and success for his first album under his own name, ''''Born On The 24th July'''' (Peacefrog / Statra). Perhaps the closest thing yet to a full depiction of Charles''''s musical vision, it is a deep yet uplifting, soulful, diverse collection - and makes for a truly coherent album, rather than a patchwork of club tracks and fillers.A remixed version of ''''Born...'''', featuring such leftfield luminaries as Herbert, UFO ,Theo Parrish and Pepe Braddock, was released to acclaim in late 2003. 2004 had seen Charles dj''''ing relentlessly worldwide, as well as remixing the likes of Salif Keita and Martina Topley-Bird and also appearing regularly as a guest for Ben Watts Buzzin Fly label for their London club night and most recently 2 appearances at the hugely popular Electric Picnic festival in Ireland.
Jamie Odell aka Jimpster and Audiomontage has been producing, remixing and Djing for the last 15 years and co-running his Freerange Records label for the last 10 of those. His musical upbringing and open minded attitude to all types of music have meant his productions have found fans across the globe in the electronica/downtempo as well as house music scenes.
His seminal Jimpster LP Messages From The Hub (1997) as well as his more dancefloor orientated Audiomontage 12”s really helped establish Jamie as an artist of some merit and he quickly became in regular demand as a remixer (over 50 at the last count!) and co producer on a wide range of underground projects. His third Jimpster LP Amour has just been released on Freerange to great critical acclaim and is already appearing in various published Top 20 LP''''s of the year (eg. No.17 in IDJ). He has also recently released his first original track for another label, choosing Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly for Square Up. This has been a big track which has sat in the top 5 of DJ Mag’s Hype Chart for a month.
Jamie has also built up his reputation as a highly regarded dj in the UK but even more so abroad. With an emphasis on top quality house music, but never afraid to stray from the path, he retains a freestyle approach that has seen him booked for gigs as diverse as Fabric and Plastic People in London, Cocoon in Frankfurt and 11 in Amsterdam. Other recent gigs have included Go Deeper in Cork, Metro in Kyoto, Propaganda in Moscow and Sonotheque in Chicago.
Jamie is also a member of highly acclaimed live outfit The Bays, whose recent performances on John Peel sessions have confirmed them as one of the most important live acts around today. Their spontaneous and totally improvised gigs have been building up a buzz with recent headlining gigs including many of the worlds best festivals such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Womad, Lowlands, Bestival and many others.
