Yeti in the Basement Presents
OBEY RADIO SHANGHAI
Yeti Birthday Bash
On June 26th YETI is celebrating its birthday bash with Los Angeles street art & fashion imprint OBEY. With both collectives rooted in music’s DIY counterculture, we are excited to bring OBEY Radio to China for the first time. Having seen pop up parties in Moscow, Amsterdam to Tokyo, OBEY Radio is a live recording session that pushes globally forward thinking sounds, hosting guests from Dream Koala, Nosaj Thing to The Gaslamp Killer.
The show will head line L.A beatsmiths Free The Robots and Roam Elsewhere at Arkham. Joining them will be China’s DMC Champion DJ HBD and Mishka Records’ Swimful alongside a very special ‘B2Bday’ set by YETI DJs.
Free The Robots (Alpha Pup / L.A)
Free The Robots is a genre defying hip hop producer that pulls together heavy doses of jazz, psychedelic, electronic and hip-hop. A staple in L.A’s beat scene he plays frequently alongside Brainfeeder artists like Flying Lotus & Tokimonsta to cohorts like Shlohmo and DJ Shadow. The last 10 years has seen him elevating L.A’s underground hip hop sound with Low End Theory while producing for Joey Bada$$’s Pro Era crew to The Gaslamp Killer.
Roam Elsewhere (Obey Records / L.A)
Roam is the main man behind Obey Radio & Obey Records, taking the pop up concept all over the map from Sao Paulo to San Francisco. Back in home turf Los Angeles, he curates alongside labels like Soulection, Stones Throw to Brainfeeder while spinning signature sets of boom bap hip hop to jazzy beats.
Swimful (Mishka Records / SH)
Formerly known as Swimful Buterfly, the UK via Shanghai beatsmith specializes in genre hopping instrumentals while producing for the likes of Lil B to Main Attrakionz. With tracks born out of the URL-sphere yet sampling Japanese to Shanghainese vocals, he’s received nods from local imprint Groove Bunny Records to global scale on Mishka Records.
DJ hBd (China DMC Champion / SH)
Leading lights in China’s turntablism circuit, DJ hBd promises a dance floor mayhem mixing in funk, soul to throwback hip hop. Originally, picking up the craft in Japan, hBd has since won the DMC Championships in China while smashing down Red Bull Thre3style Showcase to House of Vans.
YETI DJs (B2Bday Set)
YETI is a creative collective that originated in London in 2010. Since their original basement parties, they’ve thrown festivals to warehouse takeovers in 3 continents working with taste makers like Benji B, Young Guru to Ivan Smagghe. The YETI DJs in Shanghai include Allan Marshall, FADER ONE, Alan Wolf and Yeti B. Drawing influences from different musical backgrounds they churn out sets from disco, future bass, hip hop and everything in between.
