MUD: Bedlam & Welcome present Mumdance + Novelist

  • ▪️MUMDANCE: -That first era of Mumdance production, heavily influenced by the aesthetic of 8-bar grime – early Wiley, DJ Oddz, and Ruff Sqwad – was exemplified by his release of a remix of Santigold’s Creator, featuring Jammer, Tempa T, Chronik, Rage, Slickman & Badness. Followed by an EP made with Trim and released on No Hats No Hoods Recordings. His first EP on Mad Decent, the Mum Decent EP, led to two world tours which exposed Jack’s mind to all sorts of regional music from around the globe, which in turn led to the fusing of his UK club sensibilities with more global sounds such as kuduro, funk carioca, tribal gurachero, soca, batucada carnival music and gagak. The 17-year-old, whose real name is Kojo Kankam, grew up immersed in the grime scene, and built a following through appearances on underground radio stations such as Flex, NTS and Rinse – where he played solo for an hour. His collaboration with Mumdance, Take Time became one of 2014’s biggest Grime tracks and he recently signed to XL records – home to Adele and Radiohead – where he has already recorded a collaboration with Jamie xx. A former candidate to be Lewisham’s young mayor (he came second), the teenage prodigy has been widely praised for his skilful delivery and ear for musical innovations. Grime lynchpin DJ Logan Sama said Novelist was “representative of a generation that has had Grime around them for the entire time they have been aware of the existence of music. That’s really exciting, because that’s a first. He’s a product of Grime, musically.” -http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/mtr23Gh1RzLcW9J6CSmF7/novelist ▪️Glacial Sound -Few crews represent the healthy and exciting state of instrumental grime in 2014 as well as the Dublin based Glacial Sound camp. In the last two years we’ve seen releases from Murlo, Rabit, Riko Dan and Logos. The man behind the label, Paul Purcell, was recently called a tastemaker by the Irish Times. Paul has been delivering the Glacial vibe first hand in a club context through a series of label showcases and supporting the likes of Logos, Rabit, Coki, Darq E Freaker, Scratcha DVA, L-Vis 1990, Neana & Murlo at shows from NYC to Dublin to Tokyo and Berlin. His DJ sets are built from tight selections of the freshest Glacial Sound material, and dubs from the best of grime, hip hop and beyond.
