MAYDAY MAY DAY!
We're delighted to take over The Art School again on May Day with a little help from our friends providing some of the most exciting music currently on the go..
It's no secret James has been an influential figure for H+P. His DJ sets are something of wonder, sewing seemingly disparate strands of music to form a more cohesive sound of its own. His Border Community label and the family approach it has adopted is also something we have aspired to cultivate. Perhaps most importantly of all, his productions are consistently far and beyond those of his peers.
Having played host to several DJ sets in the past (including the launch party for his outstanding The Inheritors album), we welcome his hugely acclaimed live show - which was initially formed to support Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace around America - to Glasgow for what promises to be an outstanding performance.
Helena Hauff will join us in the Vic Bar. Helena's profile has risen to stratospheric levels since we played host to her UK debut at Plastic People just over 3 years to the day. Back then we didn’t know much about her.. Now, her famed residency at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel and her excellent releases on Werkdiscs, The Bunker New York, and PANhave resulted in the HH sound being in high demand from Berghain / Panorama Bar (OFFICIAL) and Bloc.. to Dekmantel and Sónar Festival.
The rest of the line up features a mixture of live and DJ sets from the superb Pye Corner Audio; Karen Gwyer, the London based experimentalist, best known for her work on Opal Tapes and No Pain In Pop and the exciting Bristolian talent, Hodge whose releases with Hemlock Recordings, Berceuse Heroique and others have been big in our box lately.
Glasgow is also represented by the greatest and good on offer - featuring a live set from minimalist Alex Smoke and DJ sets from forthcoming H+P artists Hi & Saberhagen and the mighty mighty, Golden Teacher.
