Ablak A Dubra – AAD, or 'Window to the Dub' is one of the most well established club events in Budapest night life, set out to open up new boundaries in electronic music. With its past reaching back 10 years, it has seen numerous foreign artists alongside the tops of the Hungarian scene as well. It all started out in 1998 in a culture club called Trafo, founded by one of the most exiting Djs of the times, Naga, on a weekly basis, influenced by "Tilos Radio" station. At the turn of the century, it has lined up even more hosts than St Tropez boat, with the cooperation of Hungarian fellow Dj from Fine Cut Bodies: Kevin. His appearance triggered arrival of great many well known guest artist, such as Elite Force or Chris Carter, moving away a bit towards electro, break-beat and new school sounds. The gigs were the first ever events built on such genres of electronic music in Hungary, right in the midst of progressive and tech house domination. Fusion of these genres was dubbed mid-tempo back then.
Each summer, AAD was moved outdoors to provide a more comfortable atmosphere after hot summer days, holding events at "Mokkacukka" or "Dokkoló" boat, whereas during colder seasons "Süss Fel Nap" has become its regular location.
The year 2005 brought major changes for AAD, as founder of the legendary MGC formation and resident of "United Colors of House", Beta came along to accompany the regular resident, Naga. Back then, the sort of "wierdish" 4 by 4 beats dominated each gig, which was later referred to by Kevin as "future disco". This was the exact weird sound that later emerged into the minds of public as "minimal", right at a time when AAD returned to the preference of Detroit House sounds.
In 2008 AAD settled in the centrally located ChaChaCha 12" Club, being the newest and most exclusive scene in Budapest. One thing is for sure – this event has always been one, where emergence of the newest sounds in electronic music is guaranteed!
From among the international guest appearances at AAD we are proud to mention: the Wighnomy Brothers, Hybrid, Tiefschwarz, Move D, Jamie Jones, Habersham, Tom Ellis & Leif, Jimpster, Lee Jones (MyMy), Ripperton, Anja Schneider, Harry Axt, Andre Crom, Will Saul, Radio Slave, Elite Force, Switch, Jamie Anderson, Palmskin, Soul Mekanik, Überzone, Paul Wollford, Swag, Guido Schneider, Dominik Eulberg, Tom Clark, Ben Mono, Matt Flores, John Tejada, Dub Taylor, Alison Marks, Tibcurl, Timika, Chris Carter, Adam Freeland, and Meat Katie, each adding a bit of their particular features to the original concept, all together hallmarking what AAD club night is set out for ever since it began.
