Barsoma will be celebrating the year that has been by bringing together all the crews who have made the place a hub for underground music in Brisbane. The guys, from Therapy, Subtract and Logic will all be coming together for a night of mayhem. Headlining the evening will be Brisbane's own prodigy Nick Galea.
Therapy is Barsoma's long standing Friday night of anything deep/tech/minimal. The Therapy crew includes Adrian Matyear, Gemma, Shannon Marshall and Nat Monaghan.
Logic is run by three of Brisbane's finest purveyors of all that is underground house, Mike Redfern, Fergus Alexander and BPM.
Subtrakt's head honcho Rikki Newton will also be joining us for the night, bringing his signature sounds to the decks at soma.
With the help of these crews Barsoma has had the pleasure of hosting international big guns over the past 12 months such as SOS, Gui Boratto, Joris Voorn, Will Saul, Tim Richards, Phonique, Luca Bacchetti, Jamie Stevens and most recently Charles Webster.
To bring the party to its knees at peak time Nick Galea will step into the soma booth. With Aria top10 hits, including his original production the little things Ft Emily hitting NO6 in the top 50 aria charts, this Australian DJ & producer Nick Galea is rapidly rising to the top of the heap. His first EP tiltled “The Brisbane Empire EP” was released in 2005 through Pangea Recordings offshoot One Shot Recordings. It showcases the diversity of this young producer, Nicks sound is built around a combination of warm enveloping Electro bass lines, sweet melodies, tough drums and secret ingredients all tracks being true epic pieces.
Since the release of his debut release, Nick has been busy in the studio remixing and producing original material. He has officially remixed artists such as X-press 2 (SKINT), Scenario Rock (Sony BMG), Mark Dynamix & Jaytech (Hussle/Ministry of Sound), The Potbelleez (Vicious), The Remote (Global Underground) and more.
Earlier this year, two of these remixes produced with fellow DJ and studio partner Matt Nugent reached the top 10 of the ARIA club chart. Nick and Matt’s remix of Potbelleez “Junkyard” making it all the way to number 2 & being championed on Channel 10’s Big Brother program, the boys other chart busting remix “Destructor” (Mark Dynamix & Jaytech) was featured on the recent Ministry of Sound “Diskotek” cd release mixed by D-Ramirez & Mark Dynamix.
New projects are constantly on the horizon for Nick Galea. keep an eye out this year for his remix of Dave Spoon featuring Lisa Maffia “Bad Girl (At Night)” & the very large remix with Matt Nugent of Scenario Rock’s “Skitzo Dancer” (Sony BMG).
As a DJ, Nick Galea enjoys a weekly residency at Brisbane’s newest super club “The Met”, taking his blend of minimal house, electro & tech house to the masses. Each set is sure to feature plenty of exclusive Nick Galea re-edits and remixes. Nick can also count warming up for top names such as Sasha (Gu Involver Tour), John Digweed (Bedrock Layered sounds 2), Dave Seaman, Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), Sean Quinn and Luke Chable on his list of achievements.
