The inspirational and charismatic DJ Gregory was one of a handful of ground-breaking French producers to make waves in the US/UK dominated world of house music. Gregory’s work epitomizes a unique sound, featuring rolling tribal beats, deep, dark drums and African-inspired percussion.
Between 2000 and 2002 Gregory delivered some essential cuts in the immensely popular Africanism project. Shortly after, he released ‘Tropical Soundclash’, a tune which gets huge reactions even today. Remixes for Martin Solveig, Bob Sinclar and Masters At Work followed in quick succession.
‘Elle’ was the name of DJ Gregory’s finest moment as a producer. The song became an instant classic, and was the tune of the European and Ibiza summer in 2003. The track is included on the Alumbra In The House release.
Gregory is back in 2008 with a new CD mix for Defected, titled Faya Combo Sessions. Featuring sun-drenched Caribbean beats, smoking grooves and tribal percussion, the release is a triumph in individuality in a scene where others seem content to imitate.
On Friday August 15, Gregory will bring is scorching DJ set to Alumbra for a Defected In The House party. Support from Franky D, James Belias, Simon Digby, Steve Bleas + more. Like our parties with Copyright and Simon Dunmore, expect another full-house at Alumbra as the venue lights up for our French guest.
