November’s second Night Train is a big one, with Chicago acid legend DJ Pierre headlining with Detroit techno innovator Derrick May. Leftwing & Kody and Warboy complete the heavyweight line-up.
Leading proceedings is techno pioneer Derrick May. Of the Belleville Three, the cadre of early Detroit producers who tested the limits of spirit within electronic dance music and changed the integrity of the form forever, May's reputation as an originator remains intact. Over the years, May's Transmat Records label has released some of the finest techno there ever was from the boss himself as well as from people like Juan Atkins, Stacey Pullen and Octave One.
As for Chicago native DJ Pierre, little needs to be said of the man who invented acid singled handedly back in the 80s with his cohort in Phuture. Their Acid Tracks record is still as good now as it ever was an since then Pierre has continued to DJ around the world, as well as release originals and remixes that continue in his raw style on labels like Strictly Rhythm, Nite Grooves and many others.
Given the impact they have had, it’s hard to believe Leftwing & Kody have only been around since mid-2012. The duo’s debut EP peaked at number 11 on the Beatport chart and the rest as they say is history. With an infectious sound that draws on swinging hi hats, low slung synths and masterly crafted basslines, and by joining the dots between the past and the present in their own unique way, Leftwing & Kody have since been back in the Beatport charts with releases on OFF Recordings and Exploited, all of which stayed in the Beatport top ten for over a month.
Night Train is headed up by DJ/Producer Jim Warboy, who has been responsible for developing the Heroes parties at Egg London over the past two years. He has a history of promoting fashionable, underground parties around East London and has been part of the team responsible for developing a new direction at Egg London.
