SO Flute with Andres & Residents

  • After a busy summer, we’re back in September for what will sure to be another special show. Having bought the likes of Gilles Peterson, Letherette and No Fakin to The Roadhouse prior to the summer months, we thought it was about time that we programmed another massive party. At So Flute we pride ourselves on only booking DJ’s who will come and play the sounds that our residents play, ensuring that the identity of the night is constantly maintained. This often means that we have to work that extra bit harder and go the extra mile. So for September 20th, we are flying in the genius that is DJ Dez / Andres all the way from Detroit for a party to rival our 1st Birthday back in February which cemented So Flute as one of Manchester’s best regular club nights. Little introduction is needed.. we like many regard Andres as one of the best cross-the-board DJ’s in the world. He is also without doubt one of our favourite producers. If however you don’t know much about the man heavily associated with names such as J Dilla and Moodymann, check: Andrés has been releasing classic house, soul, hip-hop and funk since 1997. As a DJ for Detroit super-group Slum Village, and being close friends with the late great J Dilla and other Detroit luminaries such as Moodymann, Waajeed and Amp Fiddler, Andrés has forged a name for himself in the underground for many years. His first released music on the legendary KDJ Label for many years including cult classics such as Andrés, Andrés II, and Andrés III. Since, Moodymann has pushed Andrés to start his own label “La Vida”. In 2012 “La Vida” came into the scene and the very first release has been a crazy sensation with tracks “New For U” and “Jazz Dance”. “New For U” was recently rated track of the year on both RA and FACT Magazine, cementing his status as one to watch in 2013 and beyond. As well as an accomplished producer, Andres has forged a solid reputation as a world class DJ. Schooled as a hip-hop DJ and moving effortlessly between, house, soul, boogie, disco, funk, RnB and Hip Hop, Andrés brings crazy technical abilities to his sets and a unique approach to mixing a club set.
