  • The Martinez Brothers Bring House Music Back To MoMA PS1’s Warm Up July 6 MoMA PS1 Warm Up Gig To Be Followed By Mad Beats & Crazy Styles 03 at Output Featuring The Martinez Brothers, Arthur's Landing (Live), Rick Wilhite, Kim Ann Foxman, DJ Spun, Filsonik & Patrick Grooves NYC Gigs Take Place During Seven-Date North American Tour. On July 6 the Martinez Brothers (Chris and Steve) will line up at MoMA PS1’a second Warm Up of the season alongside a heavy-hitting NYC crew that includes Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules & Love Affair, DJ Qu and Anthony Naples. It will be immediately followed by the third installment in The Martinez Brothers party series, Mad Beats & Crazy Styles, at the recently opened Output in Brooklyn in conjunction with ReSolute kicking off on the rooftop at 5pm. The MoMA PS1 Warm Up gig comes during a six-date North American tour for the Martinez Brothers that kicks off June 27 in San Francisco and ends on July 7 in Chicago at Wavefront. It’s fitting that New York’s MoMA PS1 Warm Up welcomes the Martinez Brothers for a second time to headline a celebration of New York house music over the July 4 weekend, few contemporary artists embody the city’s house scene better than Chris and Steve. The duo has lived and breathed New York beats since well before their debut gig as teenagers at NYC’s Shelter. Their first MoMA PS1 gig was in 2006 when Chris was 15 and Steve 18. Since those early years The Martinez Brothers have emerged to become two of New York’s brightest and most effervescent DJs and ambassadors, continually evolving their contemporary take on classic house, gracing the cover of Mixmag, playing to tens of thousands on festival stages, while staying true to their roots, as residents of Ibiza’s most cutting-edge underground party, DC10’s Circo Loco. As DJs, their charisma and energy behind the booth is more than a product of youthful exuberance, it comes from a keen understanding of the history of house and the role of the DJ. This awareness was aided by their father, a regular at NYC’s Paradise Garage with his encouragement the brothers made their first mix tape when they were just 12 and 15, playing their first NYC party just two years later. As producers the brothers cover the range of dance music – one need only glance into their releases this year to see that; their deep house take on Santos Resiak’s “A Better Light” – fast becoming a summer anthem and the thud of their Bronx Zoo remix of Burnski’s “Lost In The Zoo” championed by Radio One bass-tastemaker Mosca. Forthcoming projects sees the duo remixing Timo Maas and Green Velvet, as well as forthcoming collaborations with Point G (DJ Gregory) and Guti. Their considered catalogue bodes well for the launch of their label Cuttin’ Headz later this year. The party at Output marks the third in the Martinez Brothers’ Mad Beats & Crazy Styles party series. The party series is curated by Chris and Steve, and designed to explore the depth of the house music spectrum, through the prism of New York. The proceedings will kick off in the afternoon on Output’s rooftop and will run until 6am the following morning over three spaces. The boys will be joined by Detroit icon Rick Whiite, NYC band Arthur’s Landing (a musical collective who worked with Arthur Russell throughout his career), Rong music founder DJ Spun and New York’s Filsonik and Patrick Grooves. The upcoming US tour comes on the back of another Ibiza gig at Amnesia. It’s clear the boy’s debut residency season in 2012 made quite an impact on themselves and the island. When not DJing, the brothers were holed up in a studio in Ibiza working with European contemporaries and also experimenting with hip-hop beats, expect to see more music released from this magical summer soon.
