  • Be, the much-loved weekly shindig returns at everyone's favourite rock n roll gallery all the all new and revamped Proud. We've got lots of great live acts and dj sets to bring you over the course of April and beyond, starting with the relaunch party on the 5th April starring: SOUTH CENTRAL For our launch we have a rare live performance from the Brighton-based duo who first surfaced in 2006 with their huge club-smash mix of The Klaxons’ ‘The Bouncer’. Via a storming Metronomy remix, they soon delivered ‘Nothing Can Go Wrong’ as their first proper single and had instant support from Annie Mac and Steve Lamacq at Radio 1, the XFM DJs and MTV where it went straight on to the 120 Minutes ‘Best of Year’ playlist. Additionally, they have composed a Late Of The Pier bootleg and official remixes for some of the coolest indie acts including The Maccabees, Dandi Wind, Shychild, The Whip, Sunshine Underground and The Wombats. Full live band show featuring bass, drums and even guitars from the boys in the black hoodies. South Central want you to sit up, stand up, jump up and pay attention til they’re finished. www.myspace.com/southcentralmusic MAN LIKE ME We hate to say we told you so, but if you haven’t seen Man Like Me perform somewhere last summer then you couldn’t really call it a summer. So far, Man Like Me - mild-mannered 21-year-old Camden pin-up Johnny Langer - has played numerous gigs in London at places such as YoYo, Cargo, The Cock, Sketch and a squat party in Deptford and torn them apart with his nutty carnival electro routine where he weaves through the crowd and flirts with the girls (or boys, at The Cock). On top of that, Johnny has performed stacks of “guerrilla” gigs at all the big festivals and went on to support Madness in Europe. That kind of makes sense because he’s got this whole infectious Streets / Ian Dury / Damon Albarn / East 17 thing going on… www.myspace.com/manlikeme ALI LOVE This Londoner is about to go supernova. His sound is that of young London but it’s also timeless. It’s a sign of Ali’s versatility that three generations of clubbers have given the music their seal of approval. Chic’s Nile Rogers heard some tracks and hot-footed over to the studio to trade disco guitar licks. Then after a late-night encounter with Ed Simons at Bestival, Ali was invited to collaborate with the Chemical Brothers first single from their last album. His single ‘K-Hole’ became a firm favourite on the New Rave scene and exploded all over Radio 1 and XFM, eventually attracting an album deal with Sony . Ali has been confirmed as the support act for both the Just Jack and Mark Ronson tours this October, so a rare chance to see him live before he’s headlining stadiums. www.myspace.com/mralilove DJ STEVE AOKI aka KID MILLIONAIRE An exclusive london date for DJ Steve Aoki aka Kid Millionaire. A musical taste-maker of his native LA, his ear for music paired with his ability to drop party rocking indie-dance beats conquers the world’s dance floors night after night. Between his daily treks around the US, Europe and Far East he runs one of America’s most respected indie labels, Dim Mak (which broke bands such as The Kills, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Von Bondies and currently home to Klaxons, Bloc Party, The Rakes, Mystery Jets and Whitey in the US). He also promotes his own nights in LA & NYC featuring every band looking to make it (yes they all played for him first I the US: The Bravery, Bloc Party, M.I.A., Lady Sovereign, Wolfmother, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Spankrock, the list goes on). DJ royalty! www.myspace.com/steveaoki Plus music from your resident host David H and Hot But Not playing Cosmic Disco and Indie-Electronica in Room 1. Hot But Not Hot but Not bonded over E.L.O. when both were searching out good music and found solace in Mr Blue Sky. That was when the party really started, so hats off for letting two girls who barely knew each other be in control of the music? ??citing influences as Brighton, Cider, Sprinkles, Shit music, Medium music, Good music, Bits and Socha's tits, it just hasn't stopped for them as they made the pledge to do everything they wanted to. Now hosting a residency in a pub in Camden, djing out at various London nights and launching an accessories range, Hot But Not are excited to be talked about everywhere they go. Down in the South Gallery, Be presents 'The Non-Stop Electric Cabaret' a whole room dedicated to eyeball-melting performance art. Alongside Dj Bioux spinning 50s Garage, Rock n Roll and Exotica, the following acts will await your drinking and dancing pleasure... VICKY BUTTERFLY Part Burlesque starlet, part innovative performance artiste, part music hall Vaudevillian, and all dreamer: Vicky Butterfly’s elegant, classic style comes with a twist - true to the original spirit of Burlesque and Vaudeville, her beautifully choreographed routines take in everything from the ethereal, the breath-taking and the beautiful to the macabre and the comic. Fusing old-school glamour with even older-school strangeness, her performance background includes ballet, tap, circus, acting and even opera. As well as the style of Hollywood's Golden Age or a Victorian ingénue, she has brains too and a mischievous sense of humour: she is currently collaborating on a book on Carnys. Vicky is a classic beauty with a true vintage look... ROXY VELVET Roxy Velvet is a true blue Burlesque darling. Originally trained in the fine arts, Ms Velvet delivers aesthetically polished and fabulously glamorous shows. Reminiscent of a latter-day calendar girl, her stage persona combines alarmingly seductive attributes with old fashioned poise and irrepressible charm. www. myspace. com/therealroxyvelvet ZPARK Zpark is a renegade biochemist turned circus performer who has left the warmer climes of sunny Hong Kong for the moist cobbled streets of London. Ran away with the circus one day, and now carving out a life in the brave new world of circus. Specialities include hula-hoops, a bit of silks/rope and a bit of tightwire. Randomly also plays the cello. FIFI LA BOMB Fifi La Bomb is a burlesque performer based in London. She performs British Burlesque in it's truest sense, therefore all of her routines consist of a character and a narrative. She's also a bit of a rocker at heart so a lot of her routines have a bit of a modern rock n roll edge. The brand new Proud venue is twice the size of the legendary original, and will boast 3 gallery spaces including 8 private stable booths and a 450 capacity live room - all the better for hosting the most beautifully intoxicating parties in town!
