Nu-skool breaks like never before seen in Melbourne!
Tom and Jez, collectively known as nu-skool breaks DJ/producers The AutØbØts, have established themselves on a worldwide stage, with their instantly recognizable blend of tearing basslines and funky breaks. After intial relases such as “Chickers” on 2S2, ” Rocky” on Botchit, “Blogger” on TCR and thier remixes of Aquasky’s “Perception”, Quest’s “Fuct Beat” and Factor-e & Knick’s “Kool Down” on Supercharged, the boys decided to set up their own label in 2004. Their label ‘Broke Recordings’ won the coveted ‘Breakthru Label’ award at the 2006 ‘Breakspoll’ award ceremony @ Fabric in London, and came 2nd place runner up in the 2007 “Best Label” category. Broke’s sister label ‘Brock Out’ currently offers a platform for emerging artists to nurture their talents in a professional environment.
‘Broke’ recordings are consistently found in the record bags and boxes of a wide range of globally recognized artists such as The Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts and Stanton Warriors, as well as thousands of other professional DJs and enthusiasts alike. It was a nice surprise to hear Fat Boy Slim A.K.A Norman Cook close his set at Global, in front of a 30,000 strong crowd, with ‘Burn’ (The AutØbØts collaboration with Screwface, Featuring MC Navigator on vocals).
Fatboy has also licensed ‘Burn’ as the opening track on his new “Live in Brasil” mix CD & DVD. The labels have also featured on dozens of Radio stations worldwide, including regular plays on BBC Radio1 (Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale, etc.) as well as countless plays on the many online internet radio stations. They have recorded music with many other artists including Aquasky, Screwface, Deep Impact & Fear Factory’s Christian Olde Wolbers. Their music has featured on numerous TV shows most recently CSI-Miami.
In terms of gigs, The AutØbØts have racked up hundreds over the last 4 years, many in their homeland UK, at clubs and events such as Eargasm @Fabric, Breakspoll, Raindance, Spectrum, Sumo, and many others, not forgetting their residency @ Fuse in Manchester. They also made appearances at Reading and Guildford festivals in 2003, and Glastonbury in 2004 as well as V Festival, Solfest and The Glade in 2005. They will also do Antiworld, Eastern Haze, Exit and V festivals in 2007.
Abroad, the ‘bØts have played all over the world incorporating countries such as Japan, Russia, Czech Republic, Spain (over 30 times, including performing to 10,000 people at the Esparrago festival), Canada and 10 tours of the USA, including 4 appearances @ Winter Music Conference, in Miami. These regular international excursions have helped to extended The AutØbØts global appeal and the duo is subsequently attracting interest from all quarters.
2007 also see the release of the new Broke album, “The Ends of The Earth”, also featuring The Autobots, Screwface, Agent Alvin & Dunsta, General Midi, Duel Calibre, Antiform and some very special guests!
