The Eric Duncan Easter Thursday Disco with Eric Duncan, Lasermagnetic, Mr Shiver & Definition

  • Easter Party alert! After Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks of Rub n Tug fames amazing set last year at the Horse & Groom which for many was the highlight of 2011 we had to get him back and for Easter Thursday with no school on the Friday, extended dancing time and support from London disco disciples Lasermagnetic’s Johnny Hiller & Neil Thornton and Mr Shiver of (SDM) plus Definition hosting the Loft at Shoreditch’s fav Disco pub the Horse & Groom you know this is going to be a no brainer. Eric will be playing a extended 3 hour set and with advance tickets only £5 from RA this surely will be one of the highlights of the Easter party programme. Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks is one half of legendary DJ duo Rub-n-Tug & also half of DFA’s Still Going. Dunks releases his secret weapons on the Keep it Cheap label, but he’s also “involved” with Japan’s mysterious disco-edit “C.O.M.B.i..” imprint. No matter the name though, the game remains unchanged: peak time party provider. Ever since coming up in his hometown of Los Angeles’ freestyle and hip-hop scene in the early 80s, Duncan has been a sound selector extraordinaire. With partner Thomas Bullock, he threw the notorious late 20th century Rub-n-Tug disco parties in downtown Manhattan, turning on a new generation of revellers to the sleazy pleasures of disco. He followed that up as the Saturday night resident at Passerby Bar, fuelling the party until Sunday morning. Be it slo-mo disco, incandescent funk, or banging house music, Duncan weaves it all together into a nightlife soundtrack. In the studio, Dunks has remixed everyone from LCD Soundsystem to Zero 7, the Beastie Boys to Coldplay, !!! to Roxy Music, Patrick Wolf to Grace Jones. Now it’s time for folks other than New York City’s 24 Hour Party People to get a dose of Dr. Dunks’s medicine. Forthcoming is the eagerly-anticipated Rub-N-Tug full-length album, as well as the first album from Still Going. All of which will be supplemented by even more releases on Keep It Cheap and C.O.M.B.I along setting up his still going label!- now it’s high time for London to get a dose of Dr. Dunks’s medicine. Johnny Hiller & Neil Thornton are the guys behind Lasermagnetic which was born out of passion for disco music some years ago in London. Since then the party has attracted many artists from all over the world, playing for their first time in the UK. Musically speaking Lasermagnetic likes taking risks and provide a platform to artists before they are hyped, or not hyped at all. LM parties have often attracted a colourful and music loving crowd who look for a real alternative, slightly more left-of-field. Regulars have commented that the energy of the party is more about putting a smile on peoples faces and with punters often travelling in from abroad to hear certain artists play is testament to its mission. During the magic disco carpet ride LM has hosted nights at the Tape Club in Berlin, Nouveau Casino Paris alongside regularly hosting room 3 at Fabric, sleazy warehouse bashes, marathon all dayers and taking the party on the road, to the beach, on a boat and into a basement at places like Amsterdam, Tokyo, Okinawa Island, Melbourne, Sydney, Izmir, Paris, Berlin..keeping things tropical Mr Shiver-Music has played a part in Mr Shiver's life since the age of 9 when he started playing trumpet and piano - during his teenage years he also picked up the guitar...whilst at school he joined several bands, which played a lot of James Brown and funk covers....also a love of hip hop, disco and house music started to develop in the late 80s/early 90s.....Turntables became the next instrument for Mr Shiver to master and this lead to hours being spent learning how to scratch and mix.......At the moment Shiver is a part of long running 7 inch only night 'Size Doesnt Matter' and also djs all over town playing all kinds of different music with Disco, both old and new(or should that be Nu?) featuring very prominently whenever possible!! Shiver knows how to close a party in style as he is usually the last dj to do their thing!! Recently his love of deep house music and Techno has prompted him to start collaborating with Mulletover resident and Murmur head honcho Geddes. Shiver's mantra is that 'Variety is the spice of life' - and his sets reflect this. You can expect to hear disco, hip hop, funk, reggae, soul, jazz, house, techno and even a bit of rock and maybe even drum and bass if you are really lucky!!! upstairs Definition Our headliner for this party is non other than the fantastic Letizia Carrero. Letizia has been playing and spreading her beats all around the globe and her name has now become equivalent to fantastic tech house and deep sets. It's no surprise that her skills have brought her to play alongside legendary Derrick May and James What. Expect the sound of Ibiza, London and Berlin blended into one, a set you simply can not miss! Among those complementing Letizia Carrero are Italian magician Luca Piermattei who is firm favourite at the Definition headquarters (sweet and twisted melodies combined with deep beats), Montana Cruz who impressed us with a recent set we heard him play at Supernova, Peter Glasspool fresh after sharing the decks with Margaret Dygas, Foxx who will be returning from her Sankeys set and Prime Ideal with his ever crowd- pleasing beats. Also, joining the action will be Anthony Nidis who is quickly establishing himself with one of London's best Thursday night parties, This Is Not Serious. Definition parties have featured so far guests including Tim Sheridan, Chris Woodward, Jozif, DeadEcho, and for this outing we have something very special lined-up with a truly diverse and exciting team of residents and guests chosen for your dancing pleasure. The line up chosen for this session takes into consideration the quality and depth presently existent in a variety of electronic music genres and sub-categories. Focusing on the brilliance and excellence of nu disco, tech and deep house but always finding time and space for introducing new and pioneering sounds... and as far as vibes are concerned...we are a warm atmosphere party consisting of a friendly-attitude crowd. So there you have it. Definition is back at The Horse and Groom and we’re going to party just the way we like to with a superb night of musical entertainment featuring only the freshest, sexiest and downright fiercest music around.
