On Saturday 8th October Oxjam takes over Camden’s biggest dancefloor for a kick ass night of house, tech house and techno with some of London’s hottest acts.
An exciting blend of DJs will be taking to the decks to bring you an eclectic night of dirty dancefloor action all in the name of charity.
Chris visited his first illegal raves in the late 90’s aged just 16, since then he has witnessed scenes change and music change many times. New styles have kept him in a consistent desire to discover fresh music. It was over 10 years ago he began to experiment mixing vinyl and many of those years were spent in underground record shops in East London.
It is East London that has been a big part of being a respected DJ. He’s performed at a vast number of warehouse parties, night clubs with some of the biggest names in the industry you might recognise, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Josh Wink, Loco Dice, Adam Beyer, Sandwell District, Par Grindvik, Peter Van Hoesen… Probably best known for his now notorious Lost Souls parties which ran for 5 years at the infamous former public toilet, Public Life which saw him spin alongside legends like Chris Liebing, A Guy Called Gerald, Pig & Dan, Mark Broom, James Ruskin and Perc. Great times and memorable moments have seen Chris become an experienced entertainer behind the turntables, not through any fancy showmanship but just through confidence in his mixing ability and great selection. A strong believer that all music has a time and a place shows good reason for his impressive performance anywhere from large events of 2,000 people to after parties or intimate daytime parties.
As a DJ in London he’s played pretty much everywhere worth playing that caters for underground house & techno. In recent times Chris, makes appearances for big venues and parties like Fabric’s weekly Sunday night WetYourSelf also Corsica Studios, East Village, Cafe 1001, Ewer Street Car Park and more. He is also one of the residents for weekly Sunday morning after hours Jaded @Cable where he supports some of very special guests that swing by from time to time such as DJ. T, Mark Henning, Konrad Black, Agaric, Pan-Pot, Alan Fitzpatrick. He also has his very own party Quantize, which started just over a year ago at Public Life and has since held parties at Basing House amongst other locations. Quantize has a taste for sounds from Berlin’s underground movement’s and is known for flying in talents like Berghain & Panorama Bar regular’s Oliver Deutcshmann, Ed Davenport and CLR’s Tommy Four Seven.
Last but by no means least, alongside partner Gareth Wild, he runs London’s hottest new techno brand EarToGround. Already they have organised label showcases with CLR and Stroboscopic Artefacts. Presenting guests like Lucy, Mike Denhert, Heinrich & Hirtenfellner, Xhin, Brian Sanhaji, Monoloc, James Ruskin, Shifted, Truss, Hans Bouffmyhre, Dario & Marco Zenker. Now just about to launch the brand as a record label, Chris has produced the first release “Programm E.P.” with his studio partner Dax J coming out October 2011 on EarToGround Records with remixes from super talented UK techno acts Shifted and Truss. This deep techno 4 track vinyl will be coming out on white label vinyl only in top record shops across Europe. This E.P is looking to set the mark for new things for Chris, beginning his journey as an underground label artist & manager, still just 27 years old, who knows what 2012 and beyond will hold for him.
After working alongside other producers such as Saytek (for their EP on Berwick Street Records in 2009, The Sauce EP), 2010 saw Ben Gomori embark on his solo career.
Producing across a wealth of different house and tech grooves and styles, his debut EP was released by Leeds' Baker Street Records (home to music by Sasse, Jay Tripwire, Joshua Iz, Sei A, Moodymanc & Dubble D), had remixes on Electric Sheep, Cubism, and Baker Street and another EP + remix requested by Baker Street, and another release forthcoming for Black Sheep Trax.
As a DJ, he's a former resident of legendary clubs like Turnmills, The Cross and The Key, as well as Pacha London and Egg, was chosen as a We Love...Fresh Blood winner. He's played several times at Global Gathering, Creamfields and Hungary's Sziget Festival, while he made his debut at Ibiza's We Love Space and the acclaimed Secret Garden Party in summer 2010. Alongside a burgeoning production career, he is also the editor of dance music website Data Transmission, and hosts their weekly Round-Up radio show & podcast, transmitted across the world. 2011 sees him make his debutat Gottwood Festival alongside Round Table Knights, Lee Foss and Kollektiv Turmstrasse, with further gigs in Cambridge, Brighton, Leeds and Amsterdam in the works.
SAM HEDWORTH & DARREN LEE FENTON (MOTION)
Sam Hedworth has been DJing for 14 years and has played alongside many of the world’s best DJs at clubs as big as Bedrock and Ministry Of Sound.
Darren Lee Fenton has been DJing for 13 years and has played many gigs across the midlands and north of England as well as gigs in London alongside Guy J and Darren Emerson.
Both best of friends from back home in Manchester and with a love of the same blend of tech house, progressive and techno; in 2009 they joined forces and set up Motion, a back-to-back DJ show and club night that has taken London by storm.
These days the term 'eclectic' is cast about with an all-too-carefree abandon. Seemingly any artist, aspiring or otherwise, that chooses to deviate from the confines of their own particular genre, is deemed worthy of the adjective. Milton's sound is a meticulously crafted one. Though its core lends to a solid house sensibility, it clearly exhibits a much wider spectrum of influence, from techno to garage to disco to soul. This distinct blend of organic and synthetic sounds, coupled with a unique approach to sound design and groove has been sparking more and more interest in the world of electronica.
All DJs involved in this event have genorously donated their time to blow the roof off of Camden's biggest dancefloor. Get ready for a night of spectacular musical talent all in the name of a very worthy cause.
