The 7th of September sees Lasermagnetic’s next instalment at club 54, East London’s favourite basement club with super late license. Joining Johnny Hiller and Neil Thornton will be one of Europe’s most exciting female artists at the moment – Amsterdam based DJ Steffi (Panorama Bar/Berlin) and London based nu-disco producer Mudd, who recently released the acclaimed ‘Claremont 56’ LP on Rong Music, California.
DJ, label boss and clubnight promoter has been putting on ‘all electro clubnights’ since the mid-90’s with great success at all the best clubs in Amsterdam. Over the years, artists like Legowelt, DJ Assault, Godfather, Marco Passarani, Two Lone Swordsmen etc have graced the decks. In 2000 Steffi started Klakson Records, which has since produced various minor club hits (remember: Dexter, Seymor Bits, Duplex, Mr.Cisco, Putch79?) and subsequently, these have made it into international top ten playlists of DJ’s like Laurent Garnier, DJ Hell, Andrew Weatherall, The Advent, Miss Kitten, The Hacker etc., . Dave Clarke used a track from the first twelve on his last mix CD and labels like K7 (Playgroup dj kicks), Mute, Ministry of Sound, City Rockers, Fabric, etc have knocked on the door with compilation requests!
Her current blend of electronic disco, dirty minimal house, acid and electro has been well received at renowned European clubs like Fuse in Brussels and Berlin Clubs Weekend, Panoramabar (resident) and Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), where she played next to artists like Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kitten, Ellen Alien, Ricardo Villalobos, Adult., etc.
I have seen Steffi now twice in Amsterdam, and she’s completely out-rocked her counterpart (some international artist out of Detroit), really looking forward to this one! (Johnny)
Mudd was introduced to house music in the early 80s and since his involvement with UK nu-house pioneers Akwaabba in the 90’s he has not looked back. Over the years Mudd has collaborated with mates Steve Kotey and the Idjut boys many times over (Noid, Big Bear), and carved out his own distinctive sound, which have found their home on Rong Records in California. Highlights of his musicianship include collaboration with Latin legend Chico Hamilton. His recent album entitled ‘Claremont 56’ has received great reviews around the globe. Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy is also known for his infamous Silver Bob''s Disco Meltdown, a random drunken pub disco he organises when he feels like it.
