Following a memorable year and a hugely successful Miami Winter Music Conference underground house and deep electronic UK label Urbantorque are raising the stakes during this year’s Sonar festival in Barcelona. Sous Le Soleil with Urbantorque promises to be one of the fringe parties of the festival, boasting an enviable line-up of Urbantorque artists and friends including master of the deep François DuBois and Groove Armada’s Andy Cato. It’s a bit of a coup for the increasingly admired label.
Never one’s to over-elaborate, the Urbantorque day-time party will be held at a simple yet idyllic location on Saturday 16 June. The venue’s a closely guarded secret at present, but, needless to say, it’s all it needs to be: a bar and a soundsystem under the scorching Catalan sun. The line-up, however, is far from minimal. Barcelona resident and deep house genius François DuBois hosts the event, and the French cousin of Funk D’Void will be joined by Groove Armada’s Andy Cato, tech house prodigy Milton Jackson, Soma’s Master-H, FCom’s Aqua Bassino, Nigel Hayes, Bedrock and Renaissance darling Neil Quigley, and Urbantorque’s label manager Leigh Morgan. Expect an afternoon of proper house music indulgence: depth, groove and uplifting melody will be a plenty; the way it was always meant to be!
Urbantorque has steadily built a distinct reputation for its unique swerve on deep electronic music, and of late has been a label increasingly on the radar of a host of renowned DJs and house music connoisseurs. In fact, 2006 was somewhat of a landmark year for Urbantorque with releases from the likes of Audio Soul Project, Harold Heath, Milton Jackson and of course François DuBois, with the massive underground hit ‘Blood’, propelling the label further into the spotlight and over the airwaves. The momentum’s been carried forward into 2007, and with a follow-up from François Dubois and tracks from Tom Middleton, Tiger Stripes and Joshua Collins about to drop it’s not about to stop. Urbantorque are very much a label on a roll, and Sous Le Soleil with Urbantorque is sure to demonstrate this emphatically. A sure fire way to round-off the Sonar festivities. Deep and emotive party music under the golden sun – monsieur, c’est complet!
