This week we present the hung up! bank holiday party. We have a live performance from MMM (Berlin) with DJ support from none other than Twitch's partner in crime at the legendery PURE - DJ Brainstorm. His first appearance in Glasgow since 1998!
MMM have released very few records but the ones they have are seminal releases. Their music also bookended Optimo. 1997's "Donna" was one of the very first Optimo anthems while 2010's "Nous Sommes MMM" was one of the very last. Their live shows are very infrequent but legendary and we are honoured and delighted to present their first performance in Glasgow.
Here is what they say about themselves -
''MMM is the collaboration of Fiedel and Errorsmith. Their style is disco, techno and house influenced club music in the broadest sense. Since 1996 they release on their own label. The track 'Donna' from their second 12“ single became a real techno classic. This timeless disco-techno hybrid is still played out today, appeared on countless mix-cds made by DJ Hell to Boys Noize and animates myspace friends to ecstatic comments to this day. So it's no wonder that MMM has to meet from time to time to stamp the repressed records (stamp=artwork).
After the first two releases MMM took a longer break. Errorsmith released music under his solo name and started Smith n Hack with befriended Soundhack. Fiedel continued to dj. Today he is one of the resident Djs of the Berghain club in Berlin and is represented by its inhouse 'Ostgut' booking agency.
The long cherished plan to make music together again was finaly realised in 2007. They released 'touch and go' on the 'Anniversary EP' released by Soundhack and MMM together to celebrate 10 years of existence.
Like the productions of Errorsmith, Soundhack, Soundstream and Smith n Hack, all MMM tracks are released by the artist himself instead of a label to assure the most possible artistic and financial independancy.''
DJ power on the night will come from Brainstorm, Twitch's former partner for ten years at Edinburgh's seminal Pure club. Brainstorm djs these days almost infrequently as MMM release records and this will be his first dj appearance in Glasgow since 1998 (last time he was meant to play Glasgow was the night The Sub Club burned down!).
It's always easy to hype up a dj when writing about them but with all honesty, Brainstorm (or, Andy to his mum) is one of the finest and most underrated djs Scotland has ever produced. It is probably only because he is one of the least pushy and self aggrandising people you could ever meet that he isn't roaming the world on a weekly basis plying his trade.
With exemplary mixing skills and phenomenal taste in music we think he is the perfect accompaniment to MMM and Glaswegians will be able to hear what they have been missing out on all these years.
Shake it up!
