Since beginning his Beats In Space radio show in 1999 Tim Sweeney has become one of the most influential figures on the electronic music scene. Informed by figures such as Detroit’s pioneering radio DJ Electrifying Mojo, Coldcut’s Solid Steel, WBMX and the Hot Mix 5, Tim’s weekly slot on New York’s WNYU has attracted a huge international following, attracting a list of diverse guests who constitute a who’s who of electronic music. As a DJ Tim’s influences run far and wide. As an intern at hip hop legend Steinski's studio Tim soaked up his vast record collection, giving him a solid grounding in early hip-hop, funk, soul, and rock. An internship at Tim Goldsworthy and James Murphy’s studio then gave him the opportunity to learn from their collective musical knowledge, and a full-time DJing career soon beckoned, not that it has stopped him being in New York every Tuesday for the radio show, which continues to go from strength to strength. A Beats In Space record label is due to be launched this year.
