For 9 years (since 2001), LA based Parrish Wintersmith was one half of the production, songwriting, remix, DJ duo: ‘Groove Junkies’.
During that time, with each release, they managed to gain strong support from industry icons such as Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Ben Watt, and Dennis Ferrer to name just a few.
With this level of heavyweight support behind them they launched numerous assaults on global dance charts with original releases such as ‘Deeper’, ‘Gonna Get By’, ‘Oh Lord’, ‘Music's Gotcha Jumpin’, ‘Devotion,’ ‘Life Is What You Make It’, ‘So Damn Crazy’, Work It Out’, ‘Dr Feelgood’, and ‘In The Zone’, as well as contributing to the output on labels such as Island/Def Jam, A&M, Warner Bros., RCA, J Records, Ultra, Defected, Definity, Om Records, Soulfuric, Mn2S and Buzzin’ Fly.
Many of their original productions and remixes have been licensed to Defected ITH, Hed Kandi, Ministry of Sound, OM, Seamless, and MN2S. As a result of Parrish’s work and contribution with the duo, they were nominated in the ‘Breakthrough Producers’ category at the 2005 House Music Awards.
Aside from chart topping original productions, Parrish has contributed work on mixed compilations such as the best-selling Bargrooves ‘Mimosa’ CD (Seamless), the critically acclaimed ‘House of Om’ & ‘Summer Sessions’ (Om), the ultra hip ‘After Dark/Los Angeles’ (Kinkysweet), and ‘Late Night with Groove Junkies’ (Swank).
As a Remixer – Parrish Wintersmith has remixed various artists including: Rihanna, Christine Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls, Deborah Cox, Leela James, Frankie Knuckles, & Ben Watt.
As a DJ - His international travels have extended to multiple cities across 5 different continents. Parrish travels steadily with repeat gigs including the world famous Pacha in Ibiza, Ben Watt’s former clubs: Neighbourhood and Cherry Jam in London, Melbourne/Sydney in Australia as well as South Korea. The summer of 2008 saw him play in Brazil at Club Disco and Pacha Buzios. 2010 has already seen Parrish return to Seoul and Busan South Korea. This summer he sets off to tour Australia and Southeast Asia. Among the various stops will be Stereolab in Singapore and the opening night of SOLACE, a brand new party in Melbourne. In the fall he has upcoming visits to NYC, Tokyo, Greece, Spain, Italy and back to Brasil.
After 9 years with Groove Junkies, in 2010 Parrish parted company in order to pursue other interest applicable to the music industry. Among them, he now contributes a blog to electronicamagazine.com, a UK based publication that launches June 2010 with 500,000 monthly online distribution out of the gate! In addition to djing, Parrish is also exploring new creative horizons in the studio. Since his musical influences are drawn from a myriad of sources, his desire to release work that truly reflects his variety of flavors, means he’s taking time to not rush studio productions. The future will include seeing Parrish involved with quality music that will hopefully touch the lives of those that hear it.
