FIST kicks off their spring season with a double header: Britain’s Blue Hour and NY’s Tygapaw co-headline alongside NY’s rising star Memphy and FIST residents Word of Command and DJ Clone. Blue Hour first started turning heads ten years ago as a mysterious, thrilling new voice in techno. Blending classic rave with a more stoic, modern sound, Blue Hour joined a growing pool of producers who brought techno out of its early-aughts doldrums, revitalizing the genre with a fresh edge. His performances at Berghain, Shelter, fabric, Robert Johnson and many other of the EU’s top clubs are revered for their tight, brooding impact, while his remixers are some of the best in the game: Steffi, Héctor Oaks and Pangaea are a few. “Driving and urgent” is how Jamaican-born producer Tygapaw described their music when speaking with Resident Advisor from last year’s Unsound festival. The Fake Accent label head and party organizer has a growing reputation for their essential blending of techno and dancehall, with tempos inching past 150 and sound design crafted for destruction. Their 2020 album “Get Free,” released on NAAFI, stands as a manifesto, in their own words the “soundtrack to the revolution”. Memphy is a must-watch name in the American underground: their mix for New World Dysorder pummels with a bouncy rawness, while a recent back-to-back with Schacke glides with assured confidence. DJ Clone and Word of Command remain as vital as ever, embodying the no-holds-barred ecstatic brutalism their party is beloved for.
