We're obsessed with the Midwest bred, Berlin-minded and Kyle Geiger is no exception. If you're unfamiliar - GASP! Ask your Berlin friends about his epic marathon closing sets at Berghain because THEY KNOW! With releases on Perc Trax, Drumcode, and his own label, Cubera, Kyle is equal parts producer and DJ. Through Cubera, Kyle has built on the harder, more percussive late 90’s techno sound and implements an aura of moody, groove-based soundscapes! It’s been over 5 years since he’s played in the big apple, so we’re beyond grateful, honored, and ecstatic that he’ll be closing out the early morning for us!
Relaxer, whose "My Reminiscence" track served as the ultimate dance floor catharsis throughout the height of the pandemic, brings a special live set! Relaxer (fka Ital) has an extensive track record within the BK DIY - most notably, he's a producer, live performer, DJ, and previous co-director of Sustain-Release (2014-2020). He often plays alongside Aurora Halal for their Halal & Relaxer live sonic smackdown and is the founder of Lovers Rock Recordings!
Next up, a true veteran of the underground - the Detroit-bred, New York-based Patrick Russell, whose DJ sets take on a narrative form that cultivate a sonic dialogue with dancers. We’re sooo obsessed! With releases on The Bunker NY and a regular at Detroit’s legendary No Way Back party, Patrick has built himself a following of IDM and Acid lovers alike. His sound is varied at best, but steers towards the hypnotic with intense levels of control and techno discipline.
Lychee, whose community efforts are as strong as their DJ sets, opens things up for us. Their sound is hypnotic, loose, and builds with a linear narrative structure often underappreciated in techno music. During the pandemic, they started techno4hire - a platform dedicated to work distribution for folks whose jobs were abruptly shuttered - MAJOR! Lychee runs Spontaneous Affinity, a monthly mix and interview series that showcases the many ways dance-floors have shaped artists. They are also a resident at the go-to weeknight moment in Distrikt1 at BNCC.
The night's lighting will be designed by Brooklyn-favorite, Kip Davis. MERGE's branding is led by the inimitable, David Padilla.
MERGE is a Brooklyn-based, queer platform that aims to cultivate sonic liminoid experiences through techno music. We will work together to incubate the collective queer body, and experience its transformation under the influence of techno. We seek release, mutual understanding, deeper access to the personal, interconnected, and ethereal. We honor the sound through dance, self expression, and hyper-immersion.
