JKRIV (Razor-n-Tape | Hot Honey Sundays | Glitterbox)
JKriv is a Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and label owner. With a professional musical career stretching nearly 2 decades, J has gained serious attention recently for his original productions and inspired DJ sets, and was called “an innovator of the scene” by Defected Records boss Simon Dunmore. It’s a title he has rightly earned, with releases and remixes on Joey Negro’s Z Records, Soundway Records, his own label Razor-N-Tape, among many others, plus massive new singles and remixes for Glitterbox.
Like his productions, JKriv’s DJ sets showcase his deep and diverse taste, weaving eclectic disco, house, and offbeat selections together seamlessly, always with an ear for groove and harmony, and an eye to the dance floor. J has performed live and DJ’d in over 30 countries and in nearly every state in the continental US, sharing bills with Todd Terje, Tony Humphries, Session Victim, Joey Negro, and will make his debut at the Defected Croatia festival this summer. A foundational member of the live disco band Escort, J has co-written/produced songs, and toured as bassist/guitarist with the group at Coachella, Sasquatch Festival, Electric Forest and innumerable club gigs around the world, as well as a original founding member and former bass player for the groundbreaking live-house group Tortured Soul.
Rustam Ospanoff (Jazzystan | Worldwide FM | Soho Radio NYC | The Face Radio )
Rustam Ospanoff gathers all the deepest soul sounds from around the world and elegantly delivers them in gorgeous musical journeys. Hailing from Kazakhstan, his creative goal has always been to expose diverse music to people through the curation of special events, live concerts and radio shows. He first gained international attention (and local hero status) as the founder of Jazzystan Music Festival (this ran from 2009 in Almaty, Kazakhstan) and producer of 28 music festivals over 9 years in his home country. He booked and produced live acts featuring artists like Jamiroquai, Incognito, Omar, Marcos Valle, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Nubya Garcia, EZRA Collective, Soil & Pimp Sessions to name a few.
Rustam shared decks alongside contemporary luminaries like Gilles Peterson, DJ Spinna, DJ Rahaan, JKriv, DJ Scribe, Ge-Ology, Kenny Dope, Joey Negro, Cassius, DJ Kon, Natasha Diggs, Sadar Bahar, Shuya Okino, Bradley Zero, Shawn Dub, LEFTO and many more... His DJ sets have taken him all over the world from music festivals like Worldwide (France), Cully Jazz (Switzerland), Southern Soul (Montenegro), Terraneo (Croatia), Sounsplash (Turkey) to numerous parties in London, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Hamburg, Paris, Lyon, Lisbon, Brussels, Liege, Ghent, Geneva, Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Maribor, Tbilisi, Bishkek, and other parts of the world.
Now, almost 4 years since he left Almaty, he’s a ubiquitous and beloved member of the New York City music community. He’s a versatile DJ who is as comfortable playing a dark underground house party as he is at the best clubs in the city or an upscale hotel bar. Rustam possesses a record collection that has a unique worldview - every song he plays has a beautiful deep sound and a dynamic rhythmic beat that fills a room with warm and upbeat energy. Crowds might not know what he’s playing, but they will know that it is the right sound for a magical moment in New York City.
He currently has radio show residencies on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM, Soho Radio NYC, The Face Radio Brooklyn & Rise Radio.
DJ Scribe (I Love Vinyl)
Ben Goldfarb aka DJ Scribe spins dynamic sets from the gut as much as from the heart, ranging from soul to disco, and hip-hop to detroit techno, and has been at it since before some of you were born. But it’s not about the genres. For Scribe, it's all about the right feeling. The music and the sound. In search of that feeling, Scribe has spent more time (let's not talk about money) in record shops than he cares to remember, amassing a heavy collection (he hasn't counted but estimates something close to twenty thousand records) that occupy their own room in his Upper West Side apartment.
Scribe is decades deep in his labor of love. He first taught himself how to mix two records on live radio on WOBC fm at Oberlin College in 1990, where he quickly leveled up to opening for A Tribe Called Quest’s first show on the historic Low End Theory Tour in 1991.
Back in his native NYC ever since, Scribe has been a cultural force of the underground, developing numerous acclaimed residencies and event series: Love Revolution at Joe's Pub; Tag, at the original Halcyon, in partnership with Wax Poetics Magazine; Stone Soup in conjunction with BBE Records; and Soulnado, at the Knitting Factory (in Tribeca). Scribe and longtime friend (and former dj student) OP! founded Nu-iSh in 2006 and then Raw Fusion in 2008, at the legendary APT, eventually hitting on I Love Vinyl in 2009 which ran for almost 10 years at venues such as Le Poisson Rouge and The Panther Room at Output with co-residents Ge-Ology, Amir Abdullah, Jon Oliver, The Twilite Tone and Shawn Dub.
I Love Vinyl also had a long-running radio show featuring guests from Gilles Peterson to Grand Wizzard Theodore. And Scribe writes for Love Injection fanzine and Dust & Grooves.
The number of parties in NYC and around the world, venues played, djs booked or played with, live musical performances hosted, legends interviewed on radio, podcast, and paper, over Scribe’s already long dj career are too many to mention, and Scribe is not one to brag. He’s also not one to stop. He is a humble but dedicated champion of the NYC underground club scene. The history, the inclusivity, and the revolutionary power of music, dance and community. If something is missing, he tries to build it. He just wants to move you and leave things better than he found them.
