Desire Marea: NEZIMAKADE can be seen and heard live on stage for the first time in Germany on 17 September, 2021 at Berlin’s Volksbühne.
It takes much more than just musical finesse to mix electronic and experimental music, jazz and GQOM to fuse into something completely new. Desire Marea’s brilliant debut Desire is also an exciting concoction of black queer imagery and contemporary themes revolving around spirituality, loss and love in times of the digitised society. „Something for your mind, your body and your soul“, was C’hantal’s promise on a popular house record in 1992. Desire transports this idea into the present, not only contentwise – the show is conceived as multidisciplinary format in which singing, music and performance combine to form a conceptual whole. Desire is a progressive album about empowerment and creating intimacy from a distance. Together with the band NEZIMAKADE, Desire Marea (Buyani Duma) is on a mission to deconstruct this electronic album and recreate the tracks for acoustic instruments in a live event reinventing electronic music as jazz music, and adding a trio of background singers to Buyani’s opera falsetto voice.
