Meakusma Weekend 2021

  • From September 3rd to 5th, 2021, we are organising the Meakusma Weekend, our subtle variation on the Meakusma Festival, three days of concerts, DJ-sets, performances, installations and live radio. With governmental vaccination programs showing definite progress and with measures slowly being lifted, we are happy to be able to announce that the Meakusma Weekend will feature a day program as well as a club-oriented night program. Offering a night program is a step-up from what was allowed before. We keep monitoring the situation and the measures taken by the Belgian government closely however. There is room for hope for festivals and all things music and the arts, allowing for slightly bigger audiences. Should restrictions be reintroduced, we will of course take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of everyone attending the weekend. The way things are right now, people attending the weekend will need to be fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative PCR-test from the day of attending itself, at the entrance. Only then entrance will be allowed and furthermore masks and social distancing will then not be necessary. A first batch of performing artists will be announced very soon! The heart of the Meakusma Weekend will be the Eupen Plaza, an abandoned shopping mall in the centre of Eupen. The Eupen train station is right next-door to the shopping mall. We will be using various rooms in the mall for the concerts and club nights as well as the open air parking deck for the sound system of 54KOLAKTIV. Eupen Plaza has some palm trees right in the middle. They might just add a holiday flair to the proceedings, dystopian or otherwise. Furthermore there will be concerts and installations at the Friedenskirche, the Vorn und Oben art gallery and at various public spaces in Eupen. Some installations are being developed together with Gerngesehen and will be announced in detail later. One room of the Eupen Plaza shopping mall will be transformed into a radio station that will feature continuous action throughout the weekend. Dedicated concerts, DJ-sets, artists talks and interviews will be taking place there, all this in collaboration with LYL radio and others. TICKETS A ticket for the full weekend is 60 Euro. Day tickets are 35 Euro. Because of Covid-19 measures and because Meakusma prefers to still be careful, there will be only a limited number of tickets available. Tickets are available for purchase already through … . ACCOMMODATION For those of you who would like to stay over in Eupen for the weekend, we will put up a list of accommodation options through the Meakusma website later on. TRANSPORT As mentioned before, the Eupen Plaza is right next to the Eupen train station. Eupen is a small town and all venues involved in the Meakusma Weekend are easily reached on foot. There are trains every hour connecting Eupen to cities like Liège and Brussels directly. www.meakusma-festival.be
